The La Crosse Tribune, La Crosse: Our view: Walker ad blatantly insensitive
La Crosse Tribune
We have a suggestion for how Scott Walker can best use his ubiquitous brown bag.
Whenever the Milwaukee County executive is ready to unveil yet another insensitive campaign message, he should follow these simple steps:
1) Open bag.
2) Place around mouth.
3) Blow vigorously.
4) Take a deep breath.
5) Repeat, if necessary.
6) If all else fails, inflate the bag once more and pop it.
Maybe then, Mr. Walker will wake up and smell the baloney.
The latest message from Walker, who faces Mark Neumann in the Sept. 14 primary for the Republican nomination for governor in Wisconsin, shows Walker with a pair of boxing gloves, saying he’s spoiling for a fight with Barrett, the mayor of Milwaukee and apparent Democratic nominee for governor.
Walker accuses Barrett of “throwing punches at me” and says he’s ready to fight back and “ready to go the distance as your next governor.”
Really.
No one in the Walker campaign thought for even a moment that maybe that’s just a tad insensitive, given the fact that Barrett was severely beaten with a metal pipe while trying to rescue a child from an attacker at the Wisconsin State Fair a year ago?
Barrett, who was in La Crosse earlier this week, still wears bandages over the hand that has had three surgeries and may never fully recover.
So, Scott Walker wants to let the voters of Wisconsin know that he’s ready to put on the gloves and punch Barrett?
Wow.
