Local and state Democratic Party leaders say Republican voter turnout during Tuesday's primary hasn't spooked them for the general election

Though the headquarters for the Marathon County Democrats was quiet Wednesday as state party chairman Mike Tate stopped in, he said Wisconsin voters didn't follow a national trend toward Republican candidates.
"I don't think you saw this big groundswell that we've seen in other states," Tate said. "Wisconsin doesn't respond well to those national trends."

The number of votes for Republican candidates cast in Marathon County and in the statewide primary for governor dwarfed those for Democrats. The Associated Press reported that 233,240 voted in the Democratic primary for governor compared with 614,611 in the Republican primary. In the 7th Congressional District race, 33,592 voters cast Democratic ballots compared with 62,132 in the Republican primary.

While those numbers don't directly correlate to November, the state Republican Party trumpeted that "momentum is clearly in the Republican corner going into November" in a statement released Tuesday night.
