Marathon County Households Make Less, But Still Wish "Struggling" Sean Duffy Happy Birthday!
Enjoy Your Flown-In Sushi, "Struggling" Sean!
Reality tee-vee star Sean Duffy turns 40 this week and so, as it becomes clearer that average households in the north woods are doing worse than they did 10 years ago even as Duffy continues to prosper, we hope you wish him a happy birthday.
It was a banner year for Duffy in 2010, when he transformed his time on MTV's the "Real World" into a bid for Congress as a bought-and-paid-for agent of the Koch Brothers and their phony Tea Party corporate front group. Duffy had been a district attorney known more for taking days off and campaigning on the taxpayer's dime than actually prosecuting crime, but he benefited from mountains of corporate cash spent on his behalf.
The story for Duffy's 2011 hasn't been as sunny, with a series of embarrassing missteps that include telling sympathetic Republicans that he "struggled" to make ends meet on his $174,000 per year Congressional salary, giving deceptive answers about his vote to kill health care reform and his changing versions of his support for the Paul Ryan plan to end Medicare and replace it with vouchers of declining value.
So bruised has Duffy been by 2011, that he apparently hides his appearances from the public and press, reserving information about his town halls for friendly Republican and corporate front "Tea Party" groups who presumably won't ask him why he claims he "struggles" on $174,000 even as census data shows that Marathon County households make about $10,000 less than they did a decade ago.
Not a very happy 2011 for Duffy, but we still hope you wish him well on celebrating 40 super-privileged years.
Like most north woods families, Duffy and his wife Rachel fly in sushi on a whim, so here's wishing "Struggling" Sean is able to spring for some fatty tuna on his meager $174,000 salary. Happy Birthday, "Struggling" Sean!
