The fight worth fighting

I want to thank you for standing with, and for, Wisconsin over the past 16 months.

The whole world was watching as we took to the polls to finish the job the people started when Scott Walker decided to pursue a rigid ideological agenda that sought to “divide and conquer” the people.

In the face of an unprecedented attack on Wisconsin's traditions and values waged with deceit, dirty tricks and a mountain of out-of-state cash, our grassroots army ran the largest, best Get Out The Vote program this state has ever seen.

Voters waited in lines for more than two hours because this was the fight worth fighting.

While we fell short of recalling Scott Walker, we took a giant step forward by electing John Lehman and reclaiming the state Senate.

We have in Senate Majority Leader Mark Miller a strong progressive who will serve necessarily as a brake on the unchecked power that has ruled our state, and who will care about the economic future and security of Wisconsin’s working families, as well as our notions of fairness and clean, open government.

But regardless of party, Wisconsin must be Wisconsin again. No longer can we live in a polarized state that has been corrupted by the big money Tea Party influence that has turned neighbor-against-neighbor and created an idea dangerous to democracy -- that our very government is up for sale.

So know that this is far from over. We will continue working, we will continue fighting, and we will never give up on Wisconsin.

In solidarity,

Mike Tate, Chair
Democratic Party of Wisconsin
