Violence Against Women Act Authorization Stalled by House Republican Intransigence
Once again Republican intransigence in the House has led to our country failing to meet our obligations, this time with reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
You can read Congresswoman Gwen Moore's appropriately fiery language about the status of VAWA here, but I'd like to add a few words as a longtime advocate for victims and survivors of domestic violence who supported original passage of the ACT in the mid 1990s.
This Act doesn't merely protect women and it has long had broad bipartisan support.
The inability of people like Sean Duffy, Paul Ryan and Reid Ribble to show any leadership, much less basic compassion, toward the communities protected by VAWA speaks volumes about their priorities.
