Kapanke Votes Again to Deny Critical Care for Rape Victims

Madison – For a third time, Dan Kapanke turned his back on rape victims in Wisconsin, voting against the Compassionate Care Bill. Senator Kapanke was one of only six senators to vote against the bi-partisan legislation.
 
“How can Senator Kapanke justify voting against such common sense legislation? We need to make sure rape victims get the best care possible. Apparently Dan Kapanke doesn’t agree,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Joe Wineke said.

DPW Chairman Endorses Lena Taylor for County Executive

Milwaukee — Today Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Joe Wineke endorsed Senator Lena Taylor for Milwaukee County Executive.
 
“Senator Taylor has been a tireless advocate for Milwaukee County her entire life. She knows first hand the challenges facing Milwaukee and is ready to take them on,” Wineke said. “After fives years of Scott Walker, Milwaukee residents need new leadership and a new direction. I know that’s what Lena would bring to the office.”

DPW Statement on 2004 Election Report

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Joe Wineke released the following statement today regarding the Milwaukee Police Department’s report on the 2004 elections:
 
“This report shows opportunity for improvements in the Milwaukee election system, many of which had been previously identified. Steps have taken to make real improvement in Milwaukee elections. Just last week, Milwaukee officials successfully oversaw a presidential primary election with record turnout – accurately and error-free."

Preliminary Wisconsin Democratic Delegate Count

Based on return numbers yesterday, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is reporting preliminary pledged delegate count from the Democratic primary. The DPW will report official delegate counts when the Government Accountability board finishes its official election canvass.
 
Of the 74 delegates allotted today, 42 will be pledged to Senator Obama and 32 to Senator Clinton. Forty eight of today’s delegates are allotted by Congressional District. A CD breakdown is included below. The remaining 26 delegates are allotted based on the statewide vote total.

Despite John McCain Missing the Vote, 2.6 Million in Wisconsin To Get Relief From Economic Stimulus Package

Madison - The signing today of the bipartisan economic stimulus bill means that 2.6 million families in Wisconsin will receive tax rebates of up to $1,200 per couple, plus $300 per child as early as mid-May. While most of Washington came together to provide much needed assistance to Wisconsin families struggling to cope with higher cost of living expenses, stagnating wages, job losses and a mortgage crisis that threatens the economic security of countless Wisconsinites, one Republican in Washington was too worried about his presidential campaign to show up for a crucial vote.

Hundreds of Wisconsinites to run for National Convention Delegate

As the presidential primaries sweep across the country, Wisconsin’s delegate selection process continues. Over the next two months, the DPW will hold trainings in every county in the state about how to become a delegate to the national convention. There are already over 40 trainings scheduled for February. From La Crosse County to Chippewa County to Waukesha County, local activists are organizing to run for delegate; so they can represent Wisconsin at the national convention.

Rep. XXX Votes to Delay Critical Care for Rape Victims

Every day, an estimated 40 women and children are raped in Wisconsin. (Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault) It has been 13 days since Republicans again stalled CCRV, now leaving an estimated 520 women without the critical care they need. 
 
This week, Rep. XXXX voted to delay a bill that provides critical care for rape victims for nearly a month. The bill, which XXXX initially supported, could have been sent immediately to the Senate and passed next week. Instead it will be delayed until the Assembly meets next – 26 days from today.
