Statement in Honor of Veterans Day

MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate released the following statement in honor of Veterans Day:

“Today we salute the American men and women that have dedicated themselves to securing freedom and democracy. Our brave veterans helped create the strongest military in the world, and they have also sacrificed more than we can comprehend – leaving their friends, family and loved ones behind to defend the United States.

“As our heroes return from battle, we must give them the care and support they greatly deserve. This year, President Obama and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Shinseki have worked to do just that.

“President Obama has called for the largest increase in funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs in the last 30 years while Secretary Shinseki has worked to create a more modern, effective and efficient VA. Here in Wisconsin, a $553,000 federal grant will help provide employment and training to 3,200 Wisconsin National Guard veterans this fall who have returned home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Though we have improved care for our veterans, our call of duty is not over. As our nation’s men and women continue to serve our great country, we must continue to find ways to ensure that they receive the quality care and assistance they have fought so hard to preserve.”
