Secretary Thompson Does a Flip, Flop, Flip
New Report: Thompson was for an exploratory committee,

before he was against it, before he was for it again?

MADISON – In the latest twist of the soap opera that is Secretary Thompson’s flirtation with a run for the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, a new report states that Thompson is again looking to set up an exploratory committee to kick-off his campaign.

“It appears Secretary Thompson has taken flip-flopping to a whole new level,” said Mike Tate, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.  “Secretary Thompson was for health care reform, before he was against it; the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported yesterday that he was for the stimulus – and made money off of it – before he was against it; and now he’s back forming an exploratory committee, after he was against it, after he was initially for it.  By all accounts, it looks like Secretary Thompson has mastered the art of the flip-flop.”

On March 7, longtime Secretary Tommy Thompson aide and fellow health insurance industry “Uber-lobbyist” Bill McCoshen, said that there will be an exploratory committee set up by Thompson before the end of March.

On March 20, Secretary Thompson himself told Wispolitics that “I’m not looking at an exploratory committee.”

But according to a story aired yesterday evening on WITI Fox 6 Milwaukee, “New reports say Thompson told his Chief Advisor Bill McCoshen to file an exploratory committee.”

Milwaukee’s WTMJ NBC 4 also reported last evening that Secretary Thompson “has talked” with his Republican primary opponent, Democratic Commerce Secretary Dick Leinenkugel.

No word on whether Secretary Thompson gave Secretary Leinenkugel pointers on how he should perform a flip-flop of his own when talking with Republican voters about his support for the stimulus, Democratic candidates, high-speed rail, the climate change bill and the various other positions he’s taken that Republican’s oppose.
