Shock: Scott Walker Hires Sex Criminal to
Supervise Security at Children’s Courthouse
MADISON - Milwaukee television station WTMJ yesterday broke the shocking news that GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker had hired a defrocked northern Wisconsin police chief and sex criminal to supervise security at Milwaukee County facilities, including the children's courthouse.
The supervisor for British-based Wackenhut Security, Chad Wegener, was charged in 2004 on various criminal counts, including making unwelcome sexual advances and drunken requests for sexual favors from the very officers he supervised as chief of the Manawa Police Department, according to the criminal complaint.
According to the criminal complaint against him, Scott Walker's eventual security supervisor repeatedly would invite on-duty officers over to his home, ply them with alcohol, watch pornography and perform sex acts.
Scott Walker hired Wegener last month through Wackenhut, which suspended him following media reports. Wegener oversaw security at four county buildings, including the Juvenile Justice facility.
Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Mike Tate on Thursday called for a full-scale review of Walker's negotiation of the Wackenhut contract, which Walker defended to WTMJ, and of the sex criminal Chad Wegener's hiring.
One of the incidents of sexual harrassment described in the complaint took place on a Police Explorers trip, according to the complaint.
He also was accused of going armed while intoxicated and breaking into a suspect's home.
Wegener later pleaded no contest to five misdemeanor counts and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
The news comes on the heels of probes into sexual assaults at Walker’s Behavioral Health Division.
"Scott Walker's hiring of a sex criminal to supervise security at the children's courthouse and other Milwaukee County facilities must not be whitewashed-it must be investigated," Tate said. "There need be no further proof why Walker's judgment must never be trusted."
