Republicans are falsely claiming a mandate when legislative Democrats received about 200,000 more votes in Assembly contests than Republicans, and preserved their majority only through an historically-crooked redistricting scheme.
That's the message from Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in an op-ed published in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
"The fact of the matter is that Wisconsin cast many more votes for Democrats than Republicans last Tuesday. While the Republicans may have succeeded in winning more races statewide in this cycle through redistricting heavily in their favor, the strong Democrat votes show that Wisconsin still stands behind progressive values and the middle class."
