Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

"When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called on Americans to "transform the whole Jericho road" and ensure economic justice for all, he was preaching an ethos just as urgent then as it is today.

"In his last hours with us, he was advocating for the rights of sanitation workers to be paid a living wage. And he understood early on that the right to economic security was something that transcended race and creed, and was key to fulfilling America's great promise.

"Today, as we face the forces of unbridled wealth and power and with working families in Wisconsin and beyond watching their chance at the American Dream threatened by the selfish few, we should remember his command to be "born again" with a spirit of fairness and opportunity for all."
