Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Martha Laning released the following statement in Recognition of Juneteenth:

“On this day 151 years ago, the slaves of Galveston Texas received word that the Civil War was over and they were finally free. We recognize and remember the struggle it took to get to that moment on June 19th, 1865, and also the progress we have madesince then. While we have moved towardsa more perfect union, we still have work to do to ensure everyone, regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation, or how they identify, is treated with respect and equal protection under the law.”
