ICYMI: FALSE: Tomah Ads on Tammy Baldwin

The Tomah VA Medical Center is the central health care provider for veterans in central Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota that – like VAs across the country – overprescribed opioids to patients. This grave issue was exploited by partisan political groups in the last election, and now an Iowa-based super PAC is trying to revive these kinds of attacks against Tammy Baldwin.

But the truth is not on their side: their ad attacking Tammy Baldwin for the scandal at the Tomah VA was deemed FALSE by Politifact and was even taken off the air for being false.

Tomah Ads Attacking Tammy Baldwin Deemed False

The truth is, Tammy held the VA accountable by passing bipartisan reform, the Jason Simcakoski Memorial Opioid Safety Act, that improved care at Tomah and at VAs across the country. The reforms included: stronger opioid prescribing guidelines at the VA, mandated training for VA doctors who prescribe opioids, and increased accountability through internal audits and reviews to Congress.
